The Geological Survey of India (GSI) recently announced that it has discovered nearly 250 kgs of gold reserve in Bhitar Dari village in Jharkhand’s East Singhbhum district. The village is located just 20 kms away from Jamshedpur. GSI has already submitted a report to the Government on June 3 enabling the authorities to auction the reserves. The deposit lies 150m below ground around the mining stretch of Bhitar Dari-Hakegora areas. The detailed exploration was carried out in the area with 6 boreholes drilled as deep as 600m with an estimated reserve of 0.34 million tonnes of gold with an average grade of 0.71 g/t. The cut-off grade for gold is 0.4 g/t. This stresses the requirement for further drilling in the area for confirming the economic viability of the reserve.
