What is Mining Geology?

Mining Geology is a branch of Geology that applies the concepts of Economic Geology in Mining Engineering for the economically viable extraction of mineral resources. The subject deals with the assessment, exploration, estimation, and mining of the mineral deposits.

Mining Geology concerns with the conversion of mineral resources to mineral reserves through borehole drilling, assessment of the mineral grade, 3D modeling of the ore body, development of mine plans, managing production grades etc. It is an applied subject which depends on the day to day work rather than regular study.

For the beginners, Mining had 2 departments for Geologists. First is Exploration, where you work on your own and find orebody, and second is Mining, where you work under a Mining Engineer who demands you how much to find.
