When did Geology actually begin? Is there any history of the subject?

Geology is there since the stone age. The cavemen learned Geology on their own by studying the properties of rocks, and used them to create primitive weapons. The modern Geology started with the studies of James Hutton, who is considered the father of modern Geology.
